Pink Library's Pumpkin Patch!

The Pink Library is growing a storybook pumpkin patch and we need your help!  Students in all grades can decorate a pumpkin to look like a favorite storybook character and bring it to the library to “plant” in our Storybook Pumpkin Patch!

No REAL pumpkins will be accepted; please use a FAKE pumpkin (real pumpkins can quickly deteriorate and rot).

·        Think of your favorite book and design your pumpkin based on your favorite character and fill out the form on the back

·        Fake pumpkins can be found at the Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, Target, and many other stores.
·        Gather your decorating supplies.  Acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Other options include adding materials such as yarn, buttons, wiggly eyes, etc.
·        Bring your pumpkin and form to the library starting Friday, October 11th Pumpkins are to be taken home at the end of school on Friday, November 4th.  If your child needs assistance getting it home please make arrangements.

*** All pumpkins will be disposed of on November 4th at 3:30 pm.

·        Participation is completely voluntary and this is not a contest!

Kinder and First: Quiet or LOUD!

Those kinder and first graders come back from summer REALLY excited! We read the book "Shh, We Have a Plan" by Chris Haughton. We discussed that the guys in this story really needed to be quiet in order to get what they wanted... the bird! Sometimes, there are time that we need to be quiet!

Once we read our book, we watched this quick video from Sesame Street called Quiet or Loud! The students loved it, they giggled a lot! This video really hit the message home, there is a good time to be loud and a good time to be quiet. We brain stormed places to be loud and places we can be quiet. The library always come up on the list but it's up to you where you'd like it to be... quiet or loud... :)

Kinder watching the video!

Happy 4th week of school everyone!

Week 1: What's the library doing?

First week back to school is a BUSY time for teachers and for students! I usually wait a few days then start making the rounds. This week, I had a few teachers want to get down here to check out books but mostly I went and visited classrooms. I really wanted to meet the students and get them hyped up about coming to the library.

Here is what I read to 1st-3rd grade! They LOVE Sam and Dave Dig a Hole. They just hoot and holler every time those boys miss the 'spectacular' surprise. We talked about how we can use our imagination to create the end of a story like in This is not my Hat. I always get a healthy debate about how the fish got his hat back and who had the better story ending. :) They are SO creative! Of course we had to hug it out with Campbell's Hug Machine.

I've been the traveling librarian/maker lady this week! :) Lots of students and teachers don't know what makerspace is so I brought the party to them and whoa nelly!! They all dove right in and didn't look back. It was truly amazing to watch. I'll blow you away with some pictures...

They used ozobots, clix, k'nex education, little bits, and amusement park engineer.

Happy first week back!

Welcome!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Pink Library website. This year is going to be a blast and I can't wait to keep you all posted on what we're up to over here!

I wanted to introduce myself as this is my first year at Pink Elementary. My name is Mrs. Butler and this is my 8th year in education. I taught 3rd grade in Richardson for 5 years, then moved to Lewisville for two years. This will be my first year at PInk. I have a little family, my husband Cade, who teaches theatre at Independence and our two little girls Lyla (4 years old) and Ava (2 years old). They keep us busy but mostly they keep us laughing!

I graduated from Texas A&M in 2009 (WHOOP!) with a degree in Early Childhood Education and graduated from Texas Woman's University with my Masters degree in Library Science and Information Studies. If I get a chance, I enjoy reading, quilting, and a big ole' cup of coffee. I feel immensely blessed to be at Pink and look forward to exciting adventures with you all!

My family!
Check back soon to see what's happening in the library!
